The pressures are real. The urgency is real. But urgency without examination often leads to building faster versions of what already isn't working. To replicating the same structures under new names. To innovation that serves efficiency without asking efficiency toward what end.

This is why Future Mapping created The Futurist Salon Series: a collection of intimate conversations grounded in rigorous curiosity, examining what exists now, what patterns are forming, and what assumptions need questioning as you build what's next and continue to lead.

WHAT THE FUTURIST SALON SERIES IS

The Futurist Salon Series brings together sociologists, artists, researchers, builders, and visionaries to explore the ideas, practices, and forces shaping how we understand and architect futures.

This isn't futurism as prediction. It's futurism as examination. These conversations create space to engage with the questions shaping what becomes possible in your communities, organizations, industries, and fields.

Each salon, hosted by Future Mapping founder Shumeca Pickett, creates space for something rare in professional lives: intimate gatherings of people with a common purpose to question, connect, and architect a future worth living in.

These salons are designed for depth over scale. Smaller groups. Deep conversation. Rigorous curiosity. The kind of exchange that happens when you bring diverse perspectives into the same room and create space for genuine inquiry rather than performative expertise.

These are intentional conversations that challenge your thinking, expand your perspective, and create space for connecting with others who are also doing the demanding work of building and leading with intention. The format provides enough structure to keep the conversation focused while allowing it to flow naturally as diverse perspectives meet. 

WHY WE CREATED THIS

The Futurist Salon Series is grounded in three commitments that shape how Future Mapping approaches all our work:

Not soft skills. Not nice-to-haves. Curiosity and imagination are essential disciplines that allow builders and leaders to see beyond the present, innovate with purpose, and drive impactful change that transcends conventional approaches. (We've written about this before.)

Partnership as necessity

We need one another. No one can build a more loving world alone or in isolation. The work of transformation requires bringing different perspectives, different expertise, and different lived experiences into conversation. This is how we architect possibilities that serve more than just ourselves. (We believe this deeply.)

Bodies of knowledge worth borrowing from

Some of the questions you're facing as you build and lead are new. We're on new frontiers, navigating technologies like AI, and unprecedented global challenges. But many questions have been examined by sociologists, artists, researchers, and practitioners across disciplines. The Futurist Salon Series is for two distinct groups:

Builders who are planning something that hasn't launched yet or deep into work that’s already underway. The Futurist Salon Series creates space for examination alongside architecture.
